With the NBA season done and dusted a huge void fills the lives of hoops fans. That is until 2kSports drops its latest iteration of its virtual NBA biosphere and fans can finally get their hoops fix. NBA 2k has been the main stay, with EA Sports struggling to piece together a solid hoops game for many years now. NBA 2k has jumped in leaps and bounds, particularly with the step into next gen which saw a fantastic looking product mesmerize us on our big screens. With NBA 2k15 due to drop in early October let’s have a look at 10 changes we would like to see in NBA 2k15.

1. Get rid of VC (virtual currency) from the MyGM mode. It is absurd that the player needs to spend VC on setting the line-up and almost everything else. Players just want to sit back and manage their team. So let them. Why let the barrier of VC get in the way of a player enjoying the mode. Save the VC for MyTeam and MyCareer. It makes a bit more sense there.

2. Allow the user to set the amount of games in MyGM mode. As it stands, you are forced to play an 82 game season. Part of the enjoyment of the mode is to build a dynasty and conquer the league which is real hard to do when you are forced to play (or sim) 82 games. Let the player choose a shorter season which allows them to get through seasons quicker.

3. Whilst we are still on the topic of MyGM mode. Why not let the player create an expansion team, let them choose the city, the team uniform and court colors (and an alternative jersey), and some arena customization. Let them have the city name on the jerseys instead of the crappy stock logos that have been present in the past. Building a team through initially an expansion draft, then later the free agency market and draft picks will be a lot of fun. Let us sign players from the Euro teams in the game too.

4. Change that voice in MyCareer mode. It is not that it is a terrible voice it is just that it is the same voice year in year out. Mix it up a bit. Better still. Let the user pick from a couple of voices for their up and coming NBA star.

5. A proper create a player function on next gen consoles. Next Gen players were force to pick from one of a handful of faces for their MyPlayer character. This led to just about every person’s character looking the same. Hell. Even the majority of computer generated players looked the same. Bring back the create player function where users can pick each physical trait or feature of their dude.

6. Stop penalizing the player with a grade hit in MyCareer for playing help defence. When the opposition point guard blows by your team mate to an open lane you aren’t going to let him have it. Of course you run over to protect the paint and prevent the easy dunk or finger roll. If the point guard kicks the ball out to the player you left and he makes an open mid range jumper so be it. The player played the percentages. He did the right thing. Don’t blast him with an ‘Allowed opponent to score’ penalty.

7. Make the player personality stat actually mean something other than a player waving their arms around more than the other guys each time they make a basket. If Metta World Peace has an unpredictable nature then the game should reflect that. Are we getting Game 7 of the Finals Metta or is his elbow getting friendly with James Harden’s beard? We won’t know until he is on the court and the team should benefit or suffer from that too.

8. Overhaul the crowd. Show us the power of the PC, the PS4 and the XBone. Watching a guy walk back and forth along the seating row or up and down the aisles and the crowd behaving like robots is so yesteryear.

9. Each year we hear about player DNA and how on court performances will affect player ratings in the game and each year this falls short. By why leave it there. If a player starts wearing a calf sleeve or shaves their hair off or grows a beard how about we see that in the game too?

10. How annoying are a lot of the dynamic goals? Being told to take good shots only when you are shooting 0.800 for the night, being told to bring the scores even only to get subbed out in the next play. These things are supposed to be dynamic, right? So why not make them dynamic and fit the context of what is going on out there on the court?

These are ten changes we would like to see in NBA 2k15 and in our opinion this would increase the enjoyment many games will experience in the game. I decided to leave out anything to do with shooting percentages. I don’t have a huge problem with players missing open shots. Teams in the game seem to already shoot at Game 4 San Antonio first half percentages every game. Yeah, this could be eased back to truer shooter percentages but it isn’t really a game breaker for me.

What changes would you like to see in NBA 2k15. Let us know in the comments section below.

When gaming meets music; magic happens. This crossover between two cultures resonates long after you put the controller down.

Here are five of the best adrenaline fuelled, fist pumping soundtracks to rock your freakin’ socks off.

Need for Speed Underground. (PC, PS2, XBOX 2003)

Barroom doom doom dum da dum da dadoom. If you were in the suburbs in 2003 and heard a white guy singing this it was a safe bet they had just finished a session of NFSU.

Whether you were getting low with Lil Jon or asking for no quarter with Fuel this game’s soundtrack was the ‘nit. There’s nothing quite like tearing down the home straight to Rob Zombie’s Two Lane Blacktop as you launch over the checkered line in first place. Pwoar! Someone give me a smoke.

Now I could be wrong about this but I’m 99% sure that Skeet is some kind of winter sport.

GTA San Andreas (PC, PS2, XBOX 2004)

Who didn’t love cruising around San Andreas tuning in K-DST and hearing DJ Tommy Smith aka Axl Rose drive you home; and Radio X’s Sage sounded sexy too.

You stole, you murdered, you Grand Theft Auto’d to the sounds of wailing guitars and big hair metal.

Never has running over old ladies and punching hookers sounded so good. And the game ain’t bad either. Aaayeoooh!

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (PS, PC 2000)

Now I can’t Freestyle BMX , but if I could, it would sound like this.

Sublime’s, ‘What I Got’ sums up a generation. A time when you could grind and superman your way to freestyle heaven and the only thing you’d scrape were the tips of your thumbs. Bliss.

Apocalypse (PS 1998)

1998 was the year of the Bruce Willis/Ben Affleck gangbuster, Armageddon. It was also the year of similarly themed/named, Neversoft / Bruce Willis Playstation game Apocalypse.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived home from the video store to find that I would not be wooing Liv Tyler and saving the Earth but instead blasting my way through the Four Horseman…and saving the Earth.

Playstation’s Apocalypse was good for two reasons. Bruce Willis and the music. The game features live-action music videos from System of a Down and Poe that appear on gigantic futuristic billboards. Some years later SOAD went on to become the hottest band in the world. Was this because of 1998′s Apocalypse? Probably not. But it still rocked. Yipeekayay motherf#cker. Okay, now I’m really confused.

Rock N Roll Racing. (SNES 1993)

Olaf, slams into first!

I have to say this was one of my first loves. A lot of my childhood was spent hotting up my futuristic hovercraft, firing missiles and dodging mines to the sound of Black Sabbath, George Thorogood and Steppenwolf. I had no idea who they were at the time but gee they sounded great.

The guys behind RNRR, Silicon & Synapse went on to form a little know production house called Blizzard. Never heard of them myself but I hear they do good things.
Honourable mentions: Fifa (Every song you hear on the radio BEFORE it’s on the radio) Mario Bros (Doop doo doop doo doo doo doo) Command & Conquer (I’m a Mechanical Man) Diablo (The guitar & whistle in Tristram get me every time. Strum. Strum. Woooooooooooooooooo)

So that raps things up. (See what I did there.) There have been some truly inspired soundtracks in gaming. These are some of my faves. What’s yours?

Rockstar Games released their video for GTA Online attempting to prove to the world that they have revolutionized online gaming.

Though the blasé voice over didn’t go a lot into the specifics of the online gameplay there were certainly a few conveyed overtones. Basically, once your online character arrives in Los Santos they will be introduced to an array of structured and unstructured events that they can get up to. You could just choose to cruise around, get up to no good, or complete different “jobs” which could be anywhere from robbing a store, forming a crew and robbing a bank and even competing in classic online modes.

Completing job will earn you virtual currency that can be spent pimping your player’s appearance, purchase and customizing your vehicle and weapons and even purchasing an apartment, home or garage to store your vehicles. Oh, don’t be scared use your vehicles in races to earn additional VC for spending.

Everything you do in GTA Online will help you advance along, meeting new people and opening new possibilities, or you could use the content creator to make your own races or death matches.

With an assurance that Rockstar will keep dropping additional content into GTA Online gamers should continue to have something to do for some time, but don’t rely on them for your fun. Get creative and make your own.

Though R* have loosely told us what we can do, we haven’t been told how or why. Is there going to be a cost to the gamer to get involved? How many players can the server take at a time? Is GTA Online supposed to be a MMOG? Sim City struggled early on with its players getting online and given the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles aren’t renowned for having environments with lots of people in. How exactly is it going to work?

Watch Rockstar Games’ GTA Online video below

The Saints Row franchise is a franchise known for its outlandish ways and coming off the cuff of being labelled ‘Saints Row 3.5’ and initially being banned from Australia, Saints Row IV is pulling no punches when it comes to making is presence known in the gaming world.

In an effort to drum up even more attention leading to the games late August release, Deep Silver has advertised the Saints Row IV ‘Super Dangerous Wad Wad’ edition, aka known as the ‘The Million Dollar Pack’. Why the ‘Million Dollar Pack’ you may ask? Well, that answer is simple. (Cue Dr Evil) It will cost you one million dollars; and there is only one available. Yes, you read right. One million dollars.

Got $1 Million? We got your game

“But that is a hell of a lot of money to pay for a game”, you may retort. Well, Deep Silver & Violition have included heaps of goodies; and we aren’t taking about key chains, posters and hats. The Super Dangerous Wad Wad edition comes with:

The Saints Row 4: Commander in Chief Edition

Virgin Galactic Space Flight

Full-size replica Dub-Step Gun

Hostage Rescue Experience

Plastic Surgery

Spy Training Day

Personal Shopper

Capsule Wardrobe

7 nights at the Top Royal Suite at the Burj-Al-Arab, Dubai

A week for two at the Jefferson Hotel in Washington DC

First class flights to Washington and Dubai

Lamborghini Gallardo

New Toyota Prius + 1 Years insurance

A year’s Super Car Membership

So there you have it. The price of exclusivity comes at $1 million and it includes a Lambo, some airfares and accommodation and plastic surgery thrown in. Whether it is real (a space flight is pretty cool though) or the ultimate troll, know knows. Let’s have someone pony up the cool $1 mil and we’ll find out.

Aussie gamers can breathe a sigh of relief as the GTA V gets a R18+ rating in Australia by the Australian Classification Board. In early July, just after the banning of rival game, Saints Row 4 for implying sexual violence and drug use, Aussie GTA V fans had their knickers in twist after a gameplay trailer depicted protagonist Franklin leaving a medical marijuana shop swilling the contents of a bottle.

The classification board cited the game’s “high impact” drug use and strong impact sex, nudity, violence, language, and themes as motivators behind the R18+ rating. Now GTA is no stranger to the Aussie Classification Board, who pulled classification of GTA San Andreas when the Hot Coffee scandal was bought to the forefront. Rockstar Games rereleased an edited version of GTA San Andreas.

No doubt Australia’s introduction of a R18+ classification for games in January 2013 helped GTA V beat the censors and the good news is that the country’s games will be able to enjoy GTA V as R* intended it.

Australia, be prepared. There is plenty of killing, jacking cars, and sexing prostitutes in your future as you go in search of the American dream. California Dreaming.

Both Sony and Microsoft are gearing up to launch their next generation gaming consoles just in time to take your Christmas dollars. Now, it might take a little while before the current offerings of the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are rendered fully obsolete but with attractive launch prices both next gen consoles are shaping to be must have toys at release. Let’s have a closer look at them. Xbox One vs Playstation 4. Which will rule supreme come Christmas time?

Xbox One

Expected to be called the 720, Microsoft announced its “One” in May 2013. With a launch price of US$499, Microsoft has dubbed the One as an “all-in-one entertainment system” Outside of high def gaming, the One will embrace Skype connectivity, voice control, more Kinect integration, recording and streaming as well as being able to use Windows tablets and smartphones.

At the time of launch, Microsoft boasted the One’s digital rights management that effectively locked games their console and required constant internet access to keep the games library up to date. What this meant for your average gamer was that they wouldn’t be able to share and borrow games with friends. After losing several brownie points for that, Microsoft scrapped the idea to appease the fans.

Playstation 4

Sony showcased it’s next offering, the Playstation 4 in June 2013. Coming in at $100 less than the Xbox One and without the digital rights management, the PS4 garnered a warmer reception by the gaming public. Like the One, there will be no backward compatibility at launch so you know what that means? Having to purchase the games of yesteryear again via the PS Store is you want to play them.

The PS4 will have some form of compatibility with the Vita as well as smart phones as well as camera and social media integration. Sony just keep offering more and more with each rendition of its Playstation.
